Associate Provost for Academic Effectiveness

As Associate Provost for Academic Effectiveness at Georgia Tech, Loraine Phillips works with faculty and staff to lead academic effectiveness and accountability efforts. She interprets policies and influences practices for the Institute to various constituents, including accreditors and the University System of Georgia. She works closely with faculty and staff in new program development and authentic assessment practices, serves on Institute curriculum committees, and is a member of the SACSCOC Board of Trustees.

Phillips leads the Office of Academic Effectiveness, a team that includes employees working in annual program assessment, academic program review, surveys, and accreditation reporting. She has been at Georgia Tech since 2017 and earned her Doctor of Philosophy from Texas A&M University. She is a certified mediator.

As Assistant Provost for Academic Effectiveness at Georgia Tech, Dr. Reneau provides leadership and oversight of the Institute’s academic assessment processes and those related to the deployment, analyses, and reporting of key Institute-level surveys. In his role, Dr. Reneau also provides support for academic effectiveness and accountability initiatives and chairs the Institute Assessment Council (IAC), a body charged with the responsibility of developing and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the Institute.

Reneau has more than a decade of successful, innovative higher education experience within the institutional effectiveness space, including experiences in college student retention efforts, academic advising, and program and project evaluation. Throughout his career, he has conducted numerous institutional accreditation self-study reviews and has supported many academic and non-academic programs in their re-accreditation preparation.

A native of Belize, Reneau is committed to student success and the use of data to inform higher education decision-making.  Dr. Reneau has a PhD in Higher Education Leadership from the University of New Orleans.

Wu, Sarah (Yi-Chin), Ph.D.

Dr. Wu comes to Georgia Tech from Kent State University, where she served as the Associate Director of Assessment and worked on the institution’s academic program assessment. She also brings experience in data visualization, faculty and staff Communities of Practice in assessment, and institution-wide assessment activities integration. She has presented on various topics related to assessment and student learning at a range of international conferences including the Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education (AALHE), Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), NASPA, and American Educational Research Association Conference (AERA).  She seeks out ways to improve success for all students and enhance assessment culture through various strategies for different stakeholders. 

Dr. Wu holds a B.S. in Social Psychology from Shih Hsin University, M. Ed. in Learning and Instruction from National Central University, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Florida State University.

Joe completed his undergraduate work at the University of Kansas in 1996, and graduated from Wichita State University in 2002 with a PhD in Human Factors Psychology, focusing on research methodology. After spending a year teaching, he came to Georgia Tech in 2004 and put his social science skills to work for Georgia Tech and the Office of Academic Effectiveness.

Lauren is the Accreditation Manager in Georgia Tech's Office of Academic Effectiveness. She partners with the SACSCOC liaison, faculty and staff to ensure on-going compliance with SACSCOC standards. Lauren currently chairs the Regents' Advisory Committee for Institutional Research and Planning (RAC-IRP). 

Lauren came to Georgia Tech in 2023. She brought 9 years of higher education experience from Georgia College & State University where she served as a financial aid professional and then as an institutional research and effectiveness professional. Lauren holds a BBA in Accounting and MBA from Georgia Southern University.

Courtney Cullen serves as an Assessment Manager in the Office of Academic Effectiveness where she plays a critical role in helping to develop and assess the Institute’s Quality Enhancement Plan focused on Leaders in Progress and Service: Creating Intentional and Transformative Learning Experiences.  In her current role, she also provides support for academic assessment and institutional accreditation initiatives. Prior to joining the team in the Office of Academic Effectiveness at Tech, Cullen worked to support initiatives in the Office of Academic Honesty at the University of Georgia.

Cullen is completing a Ph.D. in Higher Education at the University of Georgia. She earned her M.A. and B.A. in International Affairs from the University of Georgia.

Data Visualization Developer

Mosko, Scott, MS

Scott was an electrical engineer before changing careers to focus on computer science. He brings a background in data analytics. He currently designs and develops survey reporting solutions that meet stakeholder needs using Tableau and other tools for dashboard creation. Additionally, Scott manages and maintains the office’s (Drupal) website and SharePoint sites.

Scott holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech. He also holds a master’s degree from Georgia Tech in computer science.

Ashleigh transitioned from her role as Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Georgia Tech to her current position as Program and Operations Manager in the Office of Academic Effectiveness. With a BS in Business Marketing from Regis University she has a diverse skill set in higher education, business administration, and program management. Ashleigh is dedicated to optimizing academic processes and fostering student success through strategic initiatives and operational efficiency.
