About the Award

The Office of Academic Effectiveness created the Excellence in Academic Program Assessment award to recognize and celebrate outstanding assessment practices at Georgia Tech. Academic degree program assessment plays a vital role in efforts to better gauge how well students meet learning expectations and in using that intelligence to foster continuous improvement.

Aligned with the Institute’s commitment to student success and continuous improvement, this award recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding leadership in program-level assessment of student learning. Award recipients serve as champions for meaningful program-level outcomes assessment, advancing Georgia Tech’s evidence-based culture of improvement.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the award, academic degree programs, including undergraduate, master's, Ph.D., and certificates, must meet the following conditions.

Award Criteria

The following criteria will guide the evaluation process:

  1. The program’s assessment report consistently aligns with good practices following the GT approach to Meaningful Outcomes Assessment and is evaluated at the Mature to Exemplary levels, as defined by the Academic Degree Program Assessment Quality Rubric.
  2. The program has established a culture of assessment, as evidenced by collaboration, communication, buy-in, and assessment planning with relevant stakeholders, including faculty, administrators, and other program personnel, where appropriate.
  3. The assessment report provides evidence that the program effectively uses assessment findings to drive improvements in student learning. This is demonstrated by, for example, the implementation of changes to the curriculum, instruction, program, assessment plan, etc.

Nomination and Selection Process

To be considered for the award or to nominate someone for the award, please complete and submit the nomination form by August 1 each year.

In addition to providing your contact information, the form requests your response to the following three questions:

  • Provide a brief overview highlighting how the academic degree program meets the Excellence in Academic Program Assessment award criteria.
  • Briefly describe the culture for assessment established in the program.
  • What specific changes or improvements have been made in the program as a result of assessment findings to support student learning?

Note: If you are nominating someone else for the award, be prepared to answer the questions above in the nomination form.

The Office of Academic Effectiveness will submit completed nomination forms, along with the program’s annual assessment report, to the Institute Assessment Council for review and selection. The annual awards will seek to recognize one undergraduate program, one master's program, one Ph.D. program, and one certificate program.
