The SkyFactor Housing and Residence Life survey is an external benchmarking assessment of various facets of housing and residence life. The major survey factor areas include satisfaction measures (professional and student staff, facilities, services, room assignment/change, safety and security, roommates, dining services, and community environment), learning measures (personal interactions, sense of community, diverse interactions, self-management, alcohol and drugs, sustainability, and LLCs), and overall satisfaction such as value to cost and contribution toward academic performance. AT GT, the survey is typically administered every other year. The most recent results, however, are from 2018. The survey was not administered in 2020 or 2021 due to Covid.
The results will be used by housing leadership to identify strengths and weaknesses with housing and residence life programs and services. The GT institution results are benchmarked against selected peer institutions and national results. Results are also disaggregated based on student sub-populations and residence hall. Based on the information, housing and residence life leadership will set priorities for changes as indicated. One example of change as a result of the 2018 survey was an increased focus on sustainability. Housing increased its sustainability efforts with the creation of a donation program at the end of the year for unwanted residential items to be available for next year's students, sustainability education, and a composting program (room canisters, floor bins and external compost receptacles).
