What is a midterm survey?
The midterm survey is an informal survey that can be implemented by individual instructors or administrators to gauge student opinions throughout a semester. They are often cited as a “best practice” for teaching and learning as can be extremely useful for both instructors and students. These surveys are not meant to take the place of a CIOS and are not administered through the Office of Academic Effectiveness, though we do offer an example survey below. Further, the Office of Academic Effectiveness staff are always happy to assist you in designing your own survey or by providing additional midterm survey examples. To implement a midterm survey, we suggest taking advantage of the “Quizzes” tool provided in Canvas, though instructors have also used paper forms or websites such as Qualtrics to fill that same need. Regardless of how you may choose to implement a midterm survey, the feedback provided can be included as a means to improving learning in any classroom environment.
How to Implement
Creating a midterm survey can be easily done with the “Quizzes” Tool using Canvas. Canvas can be used by any faculty at Georgia Tech for academic purposes.
